An audio flipbook of 99 books starting with the letter ‘B’ (Monkey’s Paw, Toronto, July 7, 2013).
The flipping action is miked closely in order to transpose physical materiality to the sonic realm.
Each book’s weight, size, binding affects how a book will flip and consequently the recording.
How a book sounds. Sounding a book.
The recordings were then lightly edited and played back on a bookshelf at home that has windowed cabinets through surface resonating speakers that were moved around during the recording.
The recordings of that performative playback session (done with Marla Hlady) were then edited into two files and they constitute the official release of this second edition of the Flipper project.
A commission by the Centre for Art Tapes in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada for the Acoustic Networks project.
Recorded by Don Pyle.
